2020 - An Outlook for the Year
The year will get off to a particularly exciting start for us with the opening of the new aletto Hotel Potsdamer Platz at the end of March. There’s still lots of frantic unpacking, arranging and decorating going on. But even before then, there’s going to be a lot going on and some events are already being planned. Follow us on our social medial channels for more updates and glimpses behind the scenes.
This year, we’re especially looking forward to re:publica (6 - 8 May) and the German Comicon. They will be held on the STATION Berlin trade fair grounds directly opposite our new aletto Hotel Potsdamer Platz. There are also already a number of other great trade fairs from all over Berlin in our diary. Fashion Week, from the 13th to the 17th of January, is going to span several locations.
Green Week is also being held at the ICC trade fair grounds in January. From the 17th to the 27th, you’ll be able to find out everything you need to know about nutrition, agriculture and horticulture. The ITB is also being held at the same venue, but from the 4th to the 8th of March. This international tourism trade fair highlights current travel trends. There’s also the “IFA International Electronics Fair”, from the 4th to the 9th of September, where you can discover the latest products in entertainment and consumer electronics.
Other trade fairs that are certainly on our list include:
- InnoTrans (22nd - 25th September / ICC Berlin trade fair)
- Fruit Logistica (5th - 7th February / ICC Berlin trade fair)
- Veggie World (7th - 8th March / STATION Berlin
There’s also plenty going on in the culture sector. There’s free admission for families on Sundays in many of Berlin’s museums. These include the German Technology Museum, for example, which is just a few minutes’ walk away from the aletto Hotel Potsdamer Platz.
If you want to see more free things, make a note in your diary of the Gallery Weekend, from the 1st to the 3rd of May. Over this weekend, many of the galleries in Berlin Mitte will be opening their doors to all interested visitors and showcasing a variety of additional exhibitions.
More art? The Berlin Biennale offers an exciting concept for bringing contemporary art to life. Its final exhibition across multiple sites will be held from the 13th of June to the 13th of September.
Do not confuse this event with the Berlinale, which quickens the pulses of all film fans. Especially beautiful and well worth a visit is the Zoo Palast, which inspires with its historic flair and which is situated just a 5-minute walk away from the aletto Hotel Kudamm.
Those who like street festivals will get their money’s worth at the annual CSD parade and also the Carnival of Cultures. We’re also celebrating a very special anniversary this year: 30 years of German unity! The 3rd of October this year will undoubtedly be cause for an even bigger and happier celebration!
Lovers of music will also be looking forward to the anniversary year of 2020. Beethoven’s 250th birthday will be honoured with numerous festivals and concerts.
The world of sport also has a number of major events lined up, and they will draw plenty of crowds to the capital. We’re already looking forward to the European football championships and the fantastic atmosphere at the public viewing. The biggest fan mile of its kind in Germany will be situated immediately near the aletto Hotel Kudamm, along the zoological gardens on the Strasse des 17. Juni.
This historic street also serves as a perfect sports venue, such as for the women’s race on the 16th of May.
Berlin is a diverse and colourful city, not just for night-time revellers. The new year is starting with an abundance of highlights and we’re delighted to be at the heart of it - and in two locations this year as well! The aletto Hotel Kudamm and the aletto Hotel Potsdamer Platz wish everyone an exciting 2020!
