You can always have a great time in Berlin. But it will never be as special and colourful as during the Festival of Lights which starts on October 07th and illuminates the city until October 16th. Take a walk and discover Berlin's landmarks in colours with a so-called "LightSeeing".
Take your camera, stroll through Berlin's middle and experience a glorious play of colours. This year you can enjoy the Festival for example at the Berliner Funkturm (Berlin Radio Tower), Siegessäule (Victory Column), Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral), Gendarmenmarkt, different buildings of the Humboldt University and for the first time the Märkisches Viertel.
The highlights of the Festival of Lights in this year are:
The Nikolaikirche (St. Nicholas' Church). Berlin's oldest church will be illuminated by artists from London under the motto "Spiritus - Light and Darkness"
The Altes Stadthaus (Old City Hall). Guido Maria Kretschmar, a star designer from Berlin, will clothe the building with his ideas.
The Potsdamer Platz, one of Berlin's most important juctions. Here you can find a special light installation from the libanese artist Alaa Menavi. His intention is not only to entertain, but to also make you think about what you see: A family of six as a tribute to the many, very personal stories of refugees.
The Fernsehturm (Television Tower). Here you can see two illuminations: A collage named "We Love Berlin" with various pictures of fans and participants and the contestants of the second Berlin Festival of Light award where ten finalists will compete against each other with their ideas and creativity.
If you want to can reach most of the landmarks by foot. But it might also be fun to experience the Festival of Light while shipping on the Spree. Different partners of the Festival offer various "LightSeeing"-Tours. You can take a ship, a bus, ride in a limousine or ascend in a hot-air balloon - everything is possible!
